چکیده

Background and Purpose—To determine the contribution of fibrinogen levels and FGG haplotypes to ischemic stroke. Methods—Associations between fibrinogen levels, fibrinogen /total fibrinogen ratio, and FGG haplotypes with the risk of ischemic stroke were determined in 124 cases and 125 controls. Results—Fibrinogen /total fibrinogen ratio was higher in patients than in controls during the acute phase of the stroke and lower in the convalescent phase 3 months after the stroke. FGG haplotype 3 (H3) was associated with a reduced risk of ischemic stroke (odds ratio 0.60; 95% CI, 0.38 to 0.94), but not with the fibrinogen /total fibrinogen ratio. In contrast, FGG-H2 was associated with a decreased fibrinogen /total fibrinogen ratio, but not with risk of stroke. Conclusions—Fibrinogen /total fibrinogen ratio is associated with ischemic stroke, especially in the acute phase of the disease. In addition, FGG-H3 haplotype appears to be protective against ischemic stroke. (Stroke. 2008;39:1033-1035.)

Comparison of changes in serum fibrinogen level in primary intracranial hemorrhage (ICH) and ischemic stroke

BACKGROUND There is a growing body of evidence indicating that increase in fibrinogen is associated with increased risk of stroke. This study aimed to determine the type of stroke and the role of fibrinogen in stroke type. METHODS This case-control study comprised 58 hospitalized patients with intracranial hemorrhage (ICH) and ischemic stroke. Demographic and clinical characteristics, type of...

Relationship of Opium Dependency and Stroke

Abstract Background: Stroke is the third cause of mortality and not only leads to dependency, which is a great social, individual and cultural problem, but also can affect the physiology, immune system and coagulation system such as plasma fibrinogen, and it may potentially increase the risk of stroke. This study investigated the relationship of opium dependency and stroke. Method...

Hematocrit level in patients with stroke or ischemic heart disease,Khorasan, 2002-2003

Introduction: Elevated hematocrit is associated with high blood viscosity and could lead to vascular thrombosis. The purpose of this study is to compare hematocit of ischemic stroke and myocardial infarction patients. Methods: All of the patients with ischemic stroke and myocardial infarction (MI) admitted in Vali-e-asr Hospital, Khorasan during 2002-2003 enrolled in this descriptive analytic...

بررسی نقش فیبرینوژن در ارتباط احتمالی عفونت هلیکوباکترپیلوری با بیماری‌های ایسکمیک قلبی

Background & Objective: Epidemiologic studies have shown that infectious agents such as chlamydia pneumonia and helicobacter pylori are linked to ischemic heart disease(IHD). Other studies believe that raised plasma fibrinogen level can be considered as a possible link between H.Pylori infection and IHD. Method: This analytic cross-sectional study was conducted on 261 patients. 131 hospita...

Associations of inflammatory and hemostatic variables with the risk of recurrent stroke.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Several prospective studies have shown significant associations between plasma fibrinogen, viscosity, C-reactive protein (CRP), fibrin D-dimer, or tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) antigen and the risk of primary cardiovascular events. Little has been published on the associations of these variables with recurrent stroke. We studied such associations in a nested case-con...
